Google Universal Search Demands Multiple Forms of Content

Universal search demands multiple forms of contentDo you have content online that is in a format other than a Website page?

Such as video?  Such as blogs?  Such as images?  Such as news items, including press releases?

If you do not have a variety of different content forms, you should go create some, says Robert Murray in a column at Search Engine Land:

“B2B marketers need to realize that individual Web pages no longer rein as the supreme search result. Today’s marketers need to make sure they optimize all available digital content. And if you do not have other forms of digital content beyond Web pages, you should start thinking about creating some. Soon.”

It’s all due to a change Google made earlier this year, implementing something called “universal search.” In universal search, Google displays different formats of content in the standard search results, instead of making you search each type of content individually.

The name of the game today is to get get real estate — a bigger footprint — in the Google search results by having a variety of different content forms show up in searches.

I’m starting to understand the importance of different forms of content on the Internet and this simply adds to my understanding, so thanks for the link.

Rules are made to changed and sometimes for the better. I think this is one of those rules.
