How to Find Free Research Reports

July 16, 2007 | Anita Campbell

Do you want an easy way to find free analyst reports online?  You can do a search in Google for them.  Just search for something like this:

forrester research grapevine endnotes filetype:pdf

You can do something similar with other research analysts.  Just substitute the name of the analyst firm into the string in place of the words “forrester research grapevine endnotes” and do a Google search.  For instance, use the following search phrases:

Gartner research filetype:pdf

IDC research  filetype:pdf

Yankee research filetype:pdf

And so on – it yields some useful results.

I experimented and found that you can even leave out the word “research” and just use a simple search string like the following to find a treasure trove of helpful research documents:

[analyst firm name] filetype:pdf

Hat tip to Geoff Karcher of The Karcher Group who shared this tip as one of several inside secrets of search professionals from the SMX conference.  Check out the other secrets, too — they were so juicy that they were under embargo for 30 days before Geoff could blog about them.

    Thanks for the mention.

There were some great tips given in that session and lots of blogging about them now that the embargo is lifted. It was one of the biggest advantages of SMX for sure.
