Yesterday I listened to Marketing Sherpa’s conference call “What’s Working in IT Marketing: Latest Stats.” It was based upon various sources of market research, including responses by over 800 companies to a very recent survey.
Some interesting nuggets came out of the call that I thought you might find interesting:
- Anne Holland, publisher of MarketingSherpa, pointed out that any information technology provider selling through IT consultants, must appear at trade shows where IT consultants are. The IT consultants will come to your booth and use the show as an opportunity to get to know you.
- Email newsletters to house lists get one of the best responses of any marketing technique. Large portions of advertising budgets are going to email newsletter advertising.
- Customer service is by far the biggest reason for customer defection (73%). Yet companies still think price is the issue — a huge disconnect.
The call was accompanied by a powerpoint presentation. The full slide presentation showing various statistics can be found here: http://www.marketingsherpa.com/tele/ITBenchmark7_26.pdf.
UPDATE July 28: The MP3 file to listen to the hour-long presentation can be downloaded at http://www.marketingsherpa.com/tele/ITBenchmark7_26.mp3.
